Reclaimed scaffoling osb board media unit with vintage filing cabinet

Imogen Reclaimed Scaffolding and OSB Board Media Unit with Vintage Filing Cabinet and Ladder Rung Components – aka THE WOW WALL 3 !!!

This has been an amazing commission…. we were tasked to come up with another ‘wow wall’ for our clients’ in Bristol…

Our clients were amazing… they just gave us their wall dimensions and a few guidelines as to how much shelving they needed, how much hidden storage, the size of their tv etc and sent us photos of their property and then just let us design something for them… and this is what we came up with… not immediately of course… the design process was very interactive and organic… the design details evolved over several weeks as we tossed ideas around… it’s a great way to work !!! Sometimes we do things this way, and sometimes are clients have very specific ideas of what they want… and then there our clients who fall in between these two extremes….

This was the first time we used painted OSB in a system, we’d been dying to use it for months and Imogen and her wife were as super excited about it as we were…

We love the yellow, but we love, love, love the metallic graphite boxes with the vintage brass stationery drawer handles even more !!!!

… We hope you agree that the result is stunning… super unusual and totally unique !

This storage system pictured here is 5117mm wide x 2400mm tall x 430mm deep… but the sky’s the limit…

It’s an imaginative, quirky and fun storage shelving system incorporating all various reclaimed elements – decommissioned scaffolding boards, old ladder rungs and vintage steel filing cabinets…

The materials used were bold, but because they all work together so sympathetically the overall result is streamlined and cohesive…

It’s industrial yet sophisticated and the build quality is exceptional.

This project blew our clients minds… they knew what they needed practically in terms of functionality and they knew they liked my style but they didn’t really know what they wanted from a design point of view so they set us a budget and told us to get inventive and come up with whatever we thought would be best for them… We loved both the freedom and the trust !

We couldn’t go too wild because the piece was going into a small 1970’s flat with quite modern mainstream furniture… so although we were given free reign we knew we couldn’t get carried away… designing furniture is not about our egos, tastes, agendas… it’s always always about what is the very best result for the client… their lifestyle, their budget, their overall look… the client is king/queen…

We love this product so much because it re-invents the traditional filing cabinet drawer… we designed pull out storage boxes similar in size and colour to filing cabinet drawers but made them out of osb and sprayed them with a metallic graphite coloured paint and then attached vintage brass handles and subject holders… we then juxtaposed distressed patinated steel recycled from actual vintage filing cabinets to make cupboard doors and drawer fronts… We think the mind automatically connects this and as a result the aesthetic feels coordinated and fluid, despite the fact that there are many things happening within it… it doesn’t look/feel busy… it all flows…

We also used old wooden ladder rungs as shelf supports and drawer handles with industrial key clamp fittings to tie the relationship between the overall steel and timber elements together… the obvious choice would have been to use steel pipe, but we wanted to push the design/aesthetic…

We think this piece is sophisticated… it’s intelligent… We’re very proud of it !!

This project/product was an accurately delivered and direct response to our clients needs as all our products are… We’re regularly told that we exceed our clients expectations and this is the principal we always work to…

… Everything we do is made to order and because we design and make everything ourselves we can easily accommodate any design requirements you might have… just contact us for a chat… pretty much all of our listings are a result of other client’s requests so prices are indicative of a bespoke product – the price won’t dramatically increase because you want to add a few centimetres here or take a few centimetres away there – we’re not importing and selling hundreds of products of a particular size… We make everything ourselves from raw materials in our little workshop in an old Victorian hat factory in Manchester…

… The design process is really varied… but generally speaking it is done remotely as we have clients all over the world… thank goodness for technology ! With a combination of email, scanned sketches, technical spec drawings, skype, phone calls, emails and sending samples in the post we can achieve a totally fool proof bespoke design service… generally with the more complicated projects we do the install, but not always, you can see examples of installation videos here – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFQZMqUCGgcz74k12FzbIvA

… we just love what we do and love to provide a great bespoke service… why buy off the shelf when there’s just no need to… we can create something totally unique for you !
